Pixeling Tutorial! by TalonEX Pixeling Tutorial! by TalonEX
Sorry the layout is lame, I did something simple xD I will update this as people ask questions!
Please feel free to ask me tips & tricks and other things, but don't ask me how to work a program.

FINISHED PIECE:
Oh, Hello! by Talon-Enna

:bulletblue: Does it mater what order the layers are for shading and stuff?
You can experiment. Depending on the effect it can com out differently. Since my lighting layer is above the shading layer, it pops more. If I had the shading layer above the lighting layer, the shading would come out too dark. It all depends on the program and the effects, so experiment.

Here are my layers:
Eye Shine
Linart

* Extra lighting
* Lighting (luminosity)
* Shading (multiply)
* Overlay (the pink hue)
Flat Color Layer
White lines
Sketch

The bolded ones above are stand alone, the ones with the * are clipped onto the flatcolor layer.

How do you do the lighting exactly, do you make another layer under the lines but above the colors and then just add highlights?

Yes I do ^u^ I usually set the layer to overlay or luminosity, depending on the colors of the character.

If I don't use SAI or Ps should I just make my pen tool as small as it can go and see if that works? Or should I download a brush made specifically for pixeling?

You can try, but usually even though you make the brushes small they dont fill in the pixels like a pixelling tool.

I work with Sai and the background is always white... Is there a site that helps takes away the white background?

er, you can save the file so it has a transparent bg in SAI
you have to save it as '.png' and then a little thing should pop up
like this -> sta.sh/01fg0w3hz9ip
and you have to click the 2nd option "each pixel have opacity"

Is there some kind of smoothing tool in Sai? I have used Sai before and never found anything like that.

There is blur and water color if that is what you mean? If you are asking for pixeling its better to not use them or it can come out looking weird.

I meant as in a tool that allows you to have more control of the brush. It's usually referred as the smoothing tool. Oekaki and gimp have it, so I was hoping Sai had one too.

Ah. In sai I believe it's called Stabilizer, but you should look that up on google. It will explain it better, where it is, ect. C:

This really threw me originally because I don't have anything called 'binary tool' in my SAI, but I do have the 'legacy pen,' which I believe is the same since it pixelates. x"D Haa.

Thanks for this tutorial, Talon-Enna! :heart:
